Proctoscopy

For complaints regarding itching, burning, bleeding or rashes in the rectal area, we first recommend a proctoscopy.
This quick, simple procedure in particular makes it possible to reliably diagnose and assess the severity of haemorrhoids, a common condition.
If necessary, symptomatic haemorrhoids may be treated during the patient’s visit with an injection of sclerosing agents (sclerotherapy), or with small rubber bands (ligation).

Other conditions can be quickly defined; and a complete colonoscopy may be considered if the source of any bleeding cannot be found.

Preparation and procedure: A proctoscope is a rigid instrument of stainless steel which is about 10 cm long. It is used with a lubricating gel and inserted painlessly into the rectum.

Special preparation or sedatives are unnecessary. The examination only takes a few minutes.
